On Judging:

New York Festivals: What are your personal criteria for choosing award-winning work?

Artur Lipori: I personally love simple ideas. Those ones that you just need one sentence to explain. Those ones that make you think “shit, how could I never have thought of that before?”. It’s really hard to find a rational way to explain criteria. An award-winning idea is so simple that makes you feel something different.

On Advertising:

New York Festivals: In 3 words or less, what do you think about 6 second commercials?

Artur Lipori: Simple Simple Simple.

New York Festivals: What philosophy drives your career?

Artur Lipori: The simpler the better. I believe the best ideas are those that have a clear purpose. Don’t try to say two things at once, otherwise, no one will hear.

New York Festivals: What is your all-time favorite ad? Or What are your top 5 favorite ads from the last 60 years?

Artur Lipori: It’s tough to name the “all-time favorite ad”, but I’d say that “The Bear” TV spot for Canal + is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. Every single detail in this commercial is perfect. The wonderful storytelling, the refined humor and obviously the impeccable craft.

New York Festivals: If you could work in advertising alongside any one person past or present, who would it be?

Artur Lipori: I heard that F. Scott Fitzgerald used to work in advertising to make some money for his wedding. I’d definitely team up with him. What a cool brainstorm.

On Life:

New York Festivals: Favorite music album of all time?

Artur Lipori: I was a musician before starting my career in Advertising. So, music has an essential role in everything I create. My most recent addiction is this composer called Dustin O’Halloran. His album “Lumiere” is certainly one of my favorites. A Dustin’s song can bring my mind to the saddest place on Earth, while the next track might make me regain faith in humanity. This ability to teleport your mind to different spaces is what I look for when I listen to music.
