The Grand Jury is NYF’s front line in selecting the World’s Best Advertising®. These award-winning creatives evaluate NYF’s entries from over 100 countries worldwide and determine which creative campaign will move on to the medal round. Not an easy task. It takes experience, brilliant creative chops, and dedication to their craft.

NYF’s 2018 Grand Jury of 300+ creatives are one of the most diverse juries on the planet, with advertising creatives from over 50 countries around the globe, this jury is a powerhouse of innovation and creativity.

2018 Grand Jury member, Sónia Moreira is Brand and Communication Manager for CIN Portugal. Sónia has been with the company since 2009 and manages the group´s internal and external communication and the CIN brand. In addition, she is also responsible for managing the digital area

Sónia holds a degree in Social Communication from Universidade do Minho (University of Minho), Portugal, and brings her developed her skills in the areas of brand management, product management, public relations, marketing, communication and digital marketing to the judging panel.

Previously, Sónia Moreira was part of the UNICER team for about nine years, where she held the positions of Super Bock Barrel Brand Manager, Wine Brand Manager, and Marketing Manager, Public Relations, and Sales Manager.

On Judging

New York Festivals: Why judge…and how do you find the time?

Sónia Moreira: It's a huge pleasure!  It's great that we are able to follow and give our own opinion about the great work that is being done in advertising worldwide...and you always find time for the things that are worth doing, right?... ;) 

New York Festivals: What are your personal criteria for choosing award-winning work?  

Sónia Moreira: Well, there are plenty of them but for me these are the key points: quality, originality, efficiency and of course target suitability. 

On Advertising

New York Festivals: What was the first ad you saw that made you say “wow!” and got you on the track to a career in advertising?

Sónia Moreira: The first thing that came to my mind were the classic press ads by Absolut Vodka! They were simply brilliant. Original and truly different. Just love them!

New York Festivals: What is your all-time favorite ad? Or What are your top 5 favorite ads from the last 60 years?

Sónia Moreira: That's a tough one… so many! But I would have to say the iconic Coca-Cola TV ads and Benetton's famous press ads. Great brands.... They main focus has always been about innovation, their edge and certainly their groundbreaking ideas!

On Life

New York Festivals: Favorite music album of all time?

Sónia Moreira: It's always hard to answer that question, but I would have to say “TEN” by Pearl Jam. Love those guys! :)

New York Festivals: What is your mantra for life? 

Sónia Moreira: Wouldn’t life be great if we all just live and let live?... :)
