NYF’s 2018 Grand Jury of 300+ creatives are one of the most diverse juries on the planet, with advertising creatives from over 50 countries around the globe, this jury is a powerhouse of innovation and creativity.

These award-winning creatives evaluate NYF’s entries from over 100 countries worldwide and determine which creative campaign will move on to the medal round. Not an easy task. It takes experience, brilliant creative chops, and dedication to their craft.

2018 Grand Jury member José Cárdenas Hernandez is a Senior Creative working for Leo Burnett Colombia on such brands as Coca-Cola with shopper, Davivienda, Kellogg’s and Diageo. Jose started his career at Ogilvy Bogotá working on Coca-Cola, Kia and Carulla and while at Sancho BBDO he worked with such prominent brands as Visa, Huawei, Corona and Almacenes Éxito.

Jose been awarded in different festivals such as London, D&AD, Clio, El Sol de Iberoamérica, Ojo de Iberoamérica y el Dorado.


New York Festivals: Why judge ... and how do you find the time?

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Judging at a festival of this magnitude is a great opportunity that marks a transition in my career. For this reason, the time to judge will be one of my priorities. If you really care about something, you devote time to it.

New York Festivals:  In 3 words or less, what do you think about 6 second commercials?

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Tested genius.

New York Festivals: What philosophy drives your career? 

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Honesty. Being honest with myself and with clients. Finding that idea that really solves it and which is not simply an advertising show.

New York Festivals: What's the single best piece of career advice you've ever received?

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Do not complain and work. 

New York Festivals: Did / do you have a mentor and what have you learned from them?

Yes, Diego Ortiz (Mimo), one of the most awarded creatives in Colombia. I learned to demonstrate everything with work and to have fun working. 

New York Festivals:  If you could work in advertising alongside any one person past or present, who would it be?

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Lee Clow.

New York Festivals:  Who's a creative icon that inspires you?

José Cárdenas Hernandez: Richard Branson.
